Kneeling, Alatar placed his calloused hand flat, fingers splayed, the tip of each finger resting gently on the surface of the ground. He paused, considering what he was about to do. The small group of men were trapped and they were well aware of their plight. They knew what he was and what he could do. He stayed motionless for a long moment forming the words to the spell, then suddenly launched himself forward with a shout. Boulders and large rocks around him leapt skyward as he stalked forward. The Easterlings shrieked with fear and fled but there was no escaping the barrage of deadly projectiles as each in turn found its mark. Only one man remained as Alatar quickly closed the gap between them. The lone man drew back a short vicious bow and loosed a shot toward the loping wizard. With a gesture and a muttered command a small stone shot up, hovered for a moment, then vanished in a shower of sparks and splinters as the arrow impacted it. As the man turned to run, a small ridge of earth rose in front of him and he tripped, stumbled and sprawled face first in the dirt. He never saw the rock that ended his short miserable life. Alatar quickly glanced around taking stock of his work ensuring that there were no survivors, then began to stride toward the setting sun. He had many more of Curumo's servants to deal with before he could rest. - Mr. Derek J.
ReplyDeleteEarth, God's first creation.
ReplyDeleteAwesome are all God's wondrous works.
Righteous and holy, Adam was made from the dust of the earth.
Toiling and sweating, we work the earth since Adam sinned.
Heaven and earth will pass away, but God's Word will never pass away.
Mrs. Donna J.
It was found
ReplyDeletethe earth is round
which did astound
those not profound
(who did abound.)
Miss Deborah J.
A kernel of sand
ReplyDeleteStrand over strand,
Wound tight it makes a clod,
Clay cracked and crimson,
Wet, sticky, firm,
Up between toes and smooth around heel,
Shatter dark! and form
Frayed, soft
Rich of loft,
The deep dirt for a field.
Pressed into rock by sheets and swirls,
Up it goes and down in whirls
Melting hard and hot and fast--
While the surface of the world is covered with grass.
Miss Leah B.
Earth.
ReplyDeleteThe earth it turns
and never halts
to take deep breaths
of air.
Its mountains burn
its mantle faults
though beside, it hath
few cares.
You'll find it in
the final frontier
by God, 'twas hung
in place.
And I imagine
it'll stay right here
or we'll all be flung
into space.
Mr. Justin K.
